Patios Worth Walking Out To
Patios and Walkways Built Where Your Family Already Goes
There's a worn dirt path between the back door and the driveway, a patio too small to fit both the grill and the table, or a corner of pavers that has started to sink.
Most patio problems begin underground, where clay soil holds water and shifts as it wets and dries. SchoggenScapes handles paver patio installation with the base, the slope, and the drainage worked out first, as part of one plan for the yard.
We build for homeowners across Madison, Rankin, and Hinds counties, including Clinton, Madison, Brandon, and Gluckstadt.
-
This is the part nobody sees once the job is done. Each patio sits on a compacted base built for Mississippi clay and is pitched so rain runs off instead of collecting underneath.
-
Picture how you'll use the patio: a dining table with room to pull the chairs out, a grill with counter space nearby, or seating for the whole family on a Saturday night. The landscape designer helps you choose pavers or natural stone that suit the house.
-
Walkways follow the routes your family takes every day: out to the patio, up to the front steps, over to the side gate. Each one is graded so it drains, edged so it holds its shape, and wide enough that nobody has to walk in a line.
-
When the yard slopes, a patio may need steps or a low wall to sit level. Those get designed with the patio, not added after someone trips.
-
If a grill station, outdoor kitchen, pergola, or pavilion is part of the plan, the patio is sized for it, and the gas, water, and electrical lines go in before a single paver does.
-
Lights along the walkway and at each step are planned with the hardscape, so there's no cutting into finished pavers to add them later.
What Goes Into Paver Patio Installation
Three Steps to a Patio That Stays Put
Tell us about the yard.
Call 601-924-2869 or fill out the contact form. Tell us what the patio needs to hold and the budget range you're working with. Reach us before 3 p.m. and you’ll hear back by 5. After 3 p.m., you’ll hear back by 10 a.m. the next morning.
Walk it with a designer.
A designer comes out, sees how the yard drains, and talks through size, layout, and budget with you. The design consultation fee is credited back to you when we build the project.
One crew builds it.
SchoggenScapes handles the excavation, base, pavers, and any lighting or drainage tied to the patio, so you're never waiting on another contractor to show up before the next step can start.
Patios and Walkways We've Built Across the Jackson Metro
Every patio here started with something in the yard that wasn't working: a slope, a soggy corner, a space that sat empty. Our crews also set pavers at commercial scale, including a three-year exterior renovation at MC Law in downtown Jackson.

Before the First Paver Goes Down
-
Most of a paver patio contractor's work happens before the first paver is set. SchoggenScapes checks how water moves across the yard, digs out the area, builds and compacts the base, and sets the grade so the finished patio sheds water away from the house. On clay soil, that groundwork decides whether the patio stays level.
-
Pavers usually sink or shift because water gets under them and the base wasn't built to handle it. Central Mississippi clay swells when it's wet and shrinks when it dries out, so a patio on a thin base or without a way to shed water starts to dip at the low spots. We plan the base and the drainage together so the patio has something solid to sit on.
-
A patio for dining and seating should fit the furniture plus room to walk around it and pull chairs back from the table. The right size depends on how many people you host and what else shares the space, like a grill or fire pit. Our designer marks the footprint on site so you can see it in the yard before anything is built.
-
A paver walkway contractor plans the slope so the path drains, the edges so pavers stay in place, and the width so two people can walk side by side. Lighting, steps, and where the walkway meets the driveway or patio get worked out at the same time. SchoggenScapes designs walkways with the rest of the yard instead of laying them as a separate job.
