Landscape Design That Stays Through the Build
Design the Whole Yard Once, Then Build It Right
You already know the backyard isn't working: the kids have nowhere to play, the back corner holds water after every storm, or there's nowhere to sit that doesn't face the house behind you.
A SchoggenScapes landscape designer walks the yard with you first. Our landscape design services start with how your family wants to use the yard and what has to be fixed first, then put grade, drainage, hardscape, planting, irrigation, and lighting on one plan.
The same company that draws the plan builds it, so you're never handing a drawing to a crew you've never met. SchoggenScapes handles residential landscaping and design-build across Madison, Rankin, and Hinds counties, including Clinton, Madison, Ridgeland, and Brandon.
-
Your designer starts by asking who uses the yard and for what, then gives every area a job: a kids' play space, a screen planting along the back fence, a spot for the adults around the fire. Beds, natural turf, synthetic turf, and hydroseeded areas are chosen for the sun, shade, and summers your property actually gets.
-
Paver patios and walkways go where your family walks and gathers. Each one is set on a base that's made to handle the clay underneath.
-
A slope you can't use becomes a level terrace you can. Retaining walls hold the grade, and seating walls give everyone somewhere to sit without dragging out more chairs.
-
A fire pit area designed into the hardscape gives the family a reason to stay outside after dinner. On one recent Jackson Metro project, the family fire pit became the spot for roasting marshmallows together.
-
Lighting is laid out with the rest of the plan, so wiring goes in before the patio does instead of being trenched through finished beds later. Some yards need a few accent lights along a path. Others need a full backyard system. Either way, it's set so the family can use the space after dark without flooding it with light.
-
Central Mississippi clay holds water, so drainage gets designed in before any hardscape goes down. On one project, the neighbor behind the property was already complaining about runoff before work started, and the design brought it under control.
-
Zones are laid out around the planting plan and the sun, so the system waters what’s actually planted instead of running on a grid.
Everything Your Landscape Designer Puts on the Plan
Thinking About a Backyard Redesign?
Tell us what isn’t working.
Call 601-924-2869 or fill out the contact form with the address, the problems you're seeing, and the budget range you have in mind. Call before 3 p.m. and you'll hear back by 5 p.m. the same day.
Walk the property with your designer.
The designer comes out, looks at grade, drainage, and light, and talks straight with you about what the budget will and won't cover. The design consultation carries a fee, and it's credited back to your project when we build it.
Approve the plan, then let one team build it.
Final designs are often presented in the conference room at the Clinton office. Once you approve, one team carries your project through every finished detail, from planting and irrigation to hardscape, lighting, and turf.
Yards We've Designed and Built Across the Jackson Metro
Each of these started as a yard the family wasn't using. Our designer drew the plan, and our crews built it down to the last light.

Planning a new project? Start With These
-
A landscape designer on a SchoggenScapes design-build project walks the property, learns what the family needs from it, and draws one plan for the whole yard, drainage and lighting included. Because we build what the designer draws, homeowners deal with one company the whole way through.
-
Landscape design services at SchoggenScapes begin with a paid design consultation, and the fee is credited back to the project when we build it. The designer asks about your budget range on the first call, so the plan is drawn with your number in mind instead of priced after the fact. The fee also keeps our design calendar open for homeowners who are serious about a project.
-
A SchoggenScapes landscape design can be installed in phases when budget or timing calls for it. The whole property is designed up front, so each phase fits the one after it. Drainage and utility lines are usually handled early so later phases don't tear up finished work.
-
Before meeting with a backyard designer, have a list of what isn't working, how you want to use the space, a rough budget range, and any date you're working toward. Photos of outdoor spaces you like help the conversation along. If more than one person is making the decision, it's worth having everyone there for the site visit.
-
As a landscape design company that also builds, SchoggenScapes reviews outside designs before agreeing to install them. The designer checks the plan against the property's grade, drainage, and soil to make sure it's something we can stand behind once it's built. Where something won't hold up, you'll hear that before work starts.
