Hydroseeding for Big, Bare Yards
Hydroseeding Services for New Lawns, Large Lots, and Slopes
The house is finished, but the lot around it is still bare clay and tire ruts, or there’s an acre of open yard that still needs grass.
SchoggenScapes is one of the few hydroseeding companies around the Jackson Metro, and we run our own equipment, so we can take on large stretches of open ground and slopes at scale. We hydroseed within our residential landscaping projects and as a job on its own.
Our crews cover lots in Clinton, Pearl, Flowood, Gluckstadt, and the rest of Madison, Rankin, and Hinds counties.
-
Hydroseed is a wet mix of seed and mulch sprayed in an even layer over the soil. The mulch holds moisture against the seed and keeps it from washing off in the first hard rain.
-
Seed won't take on hard, rutted dirt. The ground gets loosened and smoothed, debris comes out, and the grade is set so water drains off instead of pooling on the seed.
-
Across a large lawn or open lot, hydroseeding typically costs less than rolling out sod over the same ground. It's how acreage gets covered without the price of a pallet-by-pallet install.
-
On a bank or hillside, the mulch layer helps hold soil in place while the grass puts its roots down.
-
New seed needs regular water until it's established. If the property has irrigation, we set it to carry the new grass through those first weeks.
-
The same crews take on large hydroseeding jobs for general contractors, so a residential lot is well within their range.
How Hydroseeding Works
Share the lot details.
Call 601-924-2869 or reach out online with the lot's location and rough size. We'll call to schedule a look at the site.
Get a plan for the ground.
We check the soil, the slope, and what's been disturbed, then tell you what prep it needs and what it will cost.
Watch it come up green.
Our crews prep the ground and spray the seed. Keep it watered, and grass takes over the dirt.

Hydroseed, Sod, and What to Expect
-
Hydroseeding services spray a blend of grass seed, mulch, and water across prepared soil to start a lawn from scratch. The mulch protects the seed while it sprouts. It covers large areas quickly and evenly, which is hard to match with hand seeding.
-
Hydroseeding makes more sense than sod on larger areas, slopes, and new-construction lots where covering everything in sod would get expensive. Sod is the better pick for a small area or a yard that needs to be usable right away. The warm-season grasses common in Mississippi lawns come up best when the soil is warm, so timing matters too.
-
A hydroseeding contractor needs to know how much ground is being covered, what condition the soil is in, how steep any slopes are, and whether the equipment can reach the site. Grass type and access to water also shape the plan. SchoggenScapes walks the site before putting a number on it.
-
A hydroseeding company is the best fit for larger areas, like newly built homesites, wide-open backyards, acreage, and slopes. Smaller patches are often easier to handle with sod. If something else would work better for your yard, we'll tell you.
