Fire Pits for Nights You Don’t Want to End
Custom Fire Pits and Outdoor Fireplaces for Your Yard
Maybe the fire pit is a metal bowl that comes out of the shed twice a year, the chairs around it sink into wet grass, or the smoke rolls toward the back door every time you light it.
A good fire pit contractor plans where the smoke goes, what the pit sits on, and how everyone gets to it, not just what goes in the middle. SchoggenScapes designs each custom fire pit and outdoor fireplace as part of the full backyard design, so the seating, paving, and lighting around the fire are planned at the same time.
Our crews build fire pit areas for families in Pearl, Flowood, Ridgeland, Clinton, and elsewhere across Madison, Rankin, and Hinds counties.
-
Where the pit goes decides whether anyone enjoys sitting there. Your designer asks which way the wind usually blows on your lot, checks how far the spot sits from the house and the trees overhead, and makes sure you can see it from inside.
-
In clay soil, a fire pit set in a low spot turns into a mud ring by November. The pit and the area around it go on a base that drains, so chairs stay level and nobody's shoes sink after a rain.
-
Built-in seating, a set of chairs you can move, or some of each. The space is sized for the number of people you usually have over, with enough room to walk behind someone without stepping over their legs.
-
When a covered patio or pavilion is in the plan, an outdoor fireplace can give that end of the space a focal point. It gets designed together with the patio and the structure beside it, so all three fit together.
-
A fire lights up the circle and leaves the path to the house dark. Your designer adds a few low lights along that route so the night doesn't end with someone looking for the back steps by phone flashlight.
-
A fire pit area doesn't have to be just for the adults. On one Jackson Metro project, it was planned with the kids in mind, and it does a second job: when our crew clears fallen limbs on the property, they leave them at the pit for the next fire.
Everything Around a Custom Fire Pit
Start with the evenings you want.
Call 601-924-2869 or send the contact form. Let us know where you're thinking of putting the fire pit, how many people you want around it, and roughly what you'd like to spend. We'll reach out to set up a time.
Meet your designer in the yard.
Your designer stands on the spot you're considering and sorts out size, seating, and cost before anything gets drawn. The consultation fee counts toward the build.
Strike the match.
Our crews dig the base, build the pit or fireplace, and finish everything that surrounds it. Once we're done, all that's left is picking a night and inviting people over.

Before You Pick a Spot for the Fire
-
A fire pit contractor decides placement by looking at the wind, the distance from the house and overhanging trees, how people will get there, and how many seats the area needs to hold. SchoggenScapes also checks how water drains across that part of the yard, since a fire pit on low ground stays muddy. If your neighborhood has an HOA, it's worth checking its rules early.
-
A fire pit is open on all sides, so people sit in a circle around it. An outdoor fireplace has a back wall and chimney that send the fire and smoke one direction, so the seating faces it. Since SchoggenScapes is also an outdoor fireplace builder, our designer can show you which of the two suits your space.
-
Fire pit installation on an existing patio depends on what's under the pavers, how much room is left for chairs, and whether the patio drains well. Our designer looks at all three on site. Sometimes the better answer is extending the patio so the fire pit area isn't squeezed into a corner of it.
-
A custom fire pit is sized, placed, and built for your yard, and the patio, seating, and drainage are planned right along with it. A store-bought fire pit tends to go wherever there's room, often on grass, and the space around it is left to work itself out. Once it's built in, the fire pit becomes a permanent part of the yard instead of something you move to mow.
