Drainage Solutions for Yards That Never Dry Out
Yard Drainage for Soggy Lawns and Standing Water
It rains for an hour, and the backyard stays a swamp for three days.
Water pools against the foundation, the low corner never dries out, and the kids track mud inside every time they head out to play. As a drainage contractor, SchoggenScapes starts by finding where the water comes from and where it can safely go, then plans the fix as part of each backyard we design.
We work with homeowners in Clinton, Flowood, Ridgeland, Pearl, and across Madison, Rankin, and Hinds counties.
-
Water in the wrong place usually starts somewhere else: a downspout emptying at the corner of the house, a slope that runs the wrong way, or runoff from next door. We track down the source before choosing a fix, so your budget goes toward the cause instead of the symptom.
-
Sometimes the ground just needs to be reshaped. Regrading gives the yard a gentle fall away from the house and toward a place where water can leave without doing damage.
-
When water collects below the surface, a French drain gives it a way out: a gravel-filled trench with pipe that carries it away from the soggy area. Once it's finished, it disappears under turf or a bed.
-
A roof sheds a lot of water in a Mississippi downpour. Piping downspouts underground and out to open ground keeps that water out of the beds and off the foundation.
-
Patios, walkways, and lawns all need somewhere for rainwater to go. One Flowood yard we built had a putting green, synthetic turf, and natural lawn, all planned on one drainage system.
-
Water leaving your yard can turn into a neighbor's problem, and theirs can turn into yours. A good drainage plan keeps runoff moving on a route that doesn't cause trouble on either side of the fence.
How We Get Water Off the Yard
Flag the wet spots.
Reach us at 601-924-2869 or online with your address and a quick description of what you're seeing. If you can snap a few photos during or right after a rain, send those too. We'll be in touch to find a time to come out.
Walk the problem with a designer.
Your designer looks at every wet patch with you, traces each one back to its source, and lays out your options and the cost. The design consultation carries a fee, and it’s credited back to your project when we build it.
Wait for the next storm.
Our crews regrade, set drains, and tie it all into the finished landscape. The next time it pours, the water goes where it's supposed to.
Three Steps to a Dry Yard
Yards We've Built With Drainage Underneath
Most drainage work ends up buried, so what you'll see here are the yards sitting on top of it.

Drainage Questions From Homeowners
-
A drainage contractor looks for where water enters the property, where it collects, and where it could leave without causing damage. That means checking the slope, the downspouts, the low spots, and anything uphill, including a neighbor's yard. SchoggenScapes uses what it finds to decide if the yard needs regrading, a drain, or both.
-
A yard needs drainage solutions when water stands for more than a day after rain, soggy patches never firm up, or water runs toward the house instead of away from it. Mud splashed on the siding, washed-out beds, and grass that thins in the same low spot every year all point back to drainage. In Central Mississippi clay, those problems tend to get worse each year, not better.
-
French drain installation makes sense when water sits underground and won't soak in on its own, or pools in a spot that can't be regraded, like a low area between the house and a fence. The drain collects it below grade and carries it out to an area that can handle it. If reshaping the ground will solve the problem, that's often the simpler fix, and our designer will tell you so.
-
Drainage should be fixed before a patio, turf, or new beds go in. Building on top of a wet spot traps the problem under finished work, where it's harder and more expensive to reach. SchoggenScapes plans landscape drainage services before anything else gets built.
